Happy November to our TQR Family!!! It’s that time of year again…. The HOLIDAY (cold and flu) season is upon us. Halloween has passed and we are ramping up for the full-blown start of family, friends and FUN with a little stress thrown in! While we are off to the races planning, shopping, organizing, cooking, traveling or just staying at home (which I prefer) we undoubtedly are going to be around more people throughout the holidays. So, this newsletter is a little reminder to keep our immune systems in check.
What are ways we can stay strong and boost immunity?
One of the things we often hear about is during this time of year is “up your vitamins”. Some of these may include vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc, B-complex and elderberry. We all know that things “go around” this time of year, so increasing or adding appropriate supplements is a way to help our immune system stay strong. While you can purchase these separately, a good multi-VITAMIN can be a convenient way to get all these (plus more) at once.
Another way to help our immune system is something we’ve written about before, HYDRATION. We know that keeping our bodies hydrated simply makes EVERYTHING work better and therefore we FEEL better. During the holidays, it can be important to hydrate, especially if we are having a few cocktails. The family is all together (which might be cause for some people to drink…lol) hanging out, reminiscing, playing games, cooking or having some holiday cheer….so please, just remember to have a glass of water in between drinks, have a couple before bed or whenever you choose. Don't forget the weather can also be dehydrating. While hot and humid weather increases our chance for dehydration, I feel it’s harder to remember to hydrate in the fall/winter season. So, another gentle reminder…HYDRATE.
Fun idea: make a hydration station with some lemon slices, hydration minerals, pitcher of water and fun holiday accents.
GET ENOUGH SLEEP! Sleep is important for our immune system for several reasons. During sleep our body produces cytokines, which are proteins that help regulate our immune system… they target infection and inflammation. The deep sleep phase also helps our body repair injuries and strengthen our immune system. Furthermore, our bodies produce t-cells during sleep. These are white blood cells that help our bodies fight infection. A good rule of thumb is adults generally need seven to eight hours of sleep per night, while teenagers need nine to ten hours and school-aged children may need ten or more hours. There’s a study that shows people who sleep less than seven hours a night are three times more likely to get the common cold…. So, amidst all your Holiday cheer, remember to get your SLEEP! 😊
This time of year, is joyous and fun, but the truth is, it can also be very stressful. This is why we’re adding STRESS RELIEF to our list of immune strengtheners. Stress relief can come in many ways. There are the obvious methods like taking a warm bath, getting a massage, meditation/prayer, exercising, being out in nature, journaling, going for a walk and of course, we all know that coming to Terra Quantum Recharge is one of the BEST WAYS to decrease our stress! While ALL of these are amazing, maybe one of the most important forms of stress relief is…. Connection.
We ALL need connection!!! Reach out to a friend/family member who may be alone, give someone a hug, say hi to a stranger, smile at a passerby or just simply, BE KIND.
Doesn’t hurt to spread a little more love in this world! 😊
We raise our water cups and say "Cheers!" to the start of the holiday season! We are thankful to have your continued support.
Blessings to you, your family, friends, and communities! ❤️
